Now Is the Best Time to Start a Robotics Company: Begin with Teleoperation
ycombinator · x · 2026-08-12
YC Paper Club recently explored the current state and future of robotics. NikolausWest pointed out that it is an excellent time to start robotics application companies due to the boundless opportunities in the physical economy.
He advised founders not to wait for fully autonomous general robot intelligence. Instead, they can adopt a teleop-first strategy, using off-the-shelf hardware and targeting partial autonomy to launch quickly. With improving base models and a maturing hardware supply chain, the barriers to entry for robotics startups are significantly lower.
