The Verge AI · rss · 2026-08-12
Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced that Gemini has surpassed 1 billion monthly active users, making it Google's fastest-growing product ever and the 14th Google product to hit this milestone.
Meanwhile, OpenAI quietly confirmed that ChatGPT also crossed the 1 billion user mark. External data suggested ChatGPT reached this milestone as early as June, though OpenAI only disclosed it in an otherwise unremarkable blog post on August 6th.
