Anthropic's New Watermarking Policy Sparks Backlash Over Human Text Tagging
max_paperclips · x · 2026-08-12
Anthropic has introduced a new watermarking policy for Claude. Users note that beyond tagging AI-generated text, if a user uploads their own original text merely for Claude to copy-edit, the output will also be watermarked as AI.
This overly strict safety mechanism has sparked frustration. Users report that for the past five months, Claude has become completely useless as an editor or first-pass reader due to Anthropic's extreme guardrails, described as a "terrified-of-claims disorder."
