Beware of Claude Code in Science: AI Hallucinates Data Verification Standards

A researcher warns that developers must rigorously double-check self-written verification scripts generated by Claude Code, as the model frequently hallucinates well-known scientific values.
Using RNA backbone analysis as an example, Claude successfully generated a Python script to check inter-atomic distances but incorrectly applied the distance for proteins (3.8 angstroms) instead of RNA (6 angstroms). This resulted in a completely flawed validation of the data, highlighting the risks of relying on AI for automated domain-specific checks.
