Bezos: AI Startups Are Just the Tip of the Iceberg; Real Change Is Reshaping Every Company

Jeff Bezos recently stated that the AI companies currently in the spotlight, like OpenAI and Anthropic, are the "smallest part of the story." He compared the current hype around AI startups to the early days of internet companies, viewing it as a phase that will eventually end when AI becomes as ubiquitous as having a website.
Bezos emphasized that AI's biggest impact will be on every company in the world, from manufacturing to hospitality. He drew an analogy to the adoption of electricity: simply swapping a power source (like replacing a steam engine with a large electric motor) didn't immediately boost productivity; the real gains came from redesigning the entire workflow around the new technology. While access to AI models is nearly universal today, almost no company has yet redesigned its actual work processes around them, which is where the ultimate productivity gap will emerge in the next decade.
