Study: LLMs and Human Brains Converge on Shared Linguistic Representations

Neuroscience research indicates that human brains and state-of-the-art LLMs independently converge on a shared 'Platonic' representational space when processing linguistic structures. This stable representation is believed to be shaped by the statistical structure of language itself.
Using EEG classifiers, the study found that the brain is highly selective in processing argument structures. Furthermore, brain activity in the alpha-band (8-12 Hz) spikes at sentence-final positions, mirroring the timing predicted by Transformer models.
