DeepForest Researcher: Current AI Breakthroughs Are 'Learning Augmented Search', AGI Still Far Off

An AI researcher at DeepForest points out that despite impressive recent AI results in math and cybersecurity—and similar achievements in AI for chemistry by their own team—these advances are fundamentally instances of 'learning augmented search'. This is the same underlying technique that powered AlphaGo.
They argue this does not equate to AGI. While many peers are increasingly optimistic about AGI being imminent, the author positions themselves among a shrinking minority of AI researchers who believe AGI is not yet here or even particularly close.
