AI Labs Face Moral Hazard Accusations: Creating Risks and Selling the Solutions
jachiam0 · x · 2026-08-11
A recent perspective highlights a typical "moral hazard" with current AI labs: they are creating novel externalities and security risks during R&D, and then attempting to sell the world the solutions to these very problems.
Researcher jachiam0 offered a deeper philosophical interpretation. He argued that AI labs will have an incredibly hard time earning the world's trust because they are finishing the project of "science." Science brings mastery over nature, but it also enables us to create cataclysms. Advancing frontier technology might not be wrong in itself, but the process inevitably brings hard global safety and security challenges.
