Unreleased Claude Boosts Riemann Hypothesis Lower Bound to 67.2% in Math Breakthrough

Anthropic tasked an unreleased research version of Claude with tackling the Riemann hypothesis, a famous unsolved problem in mathematics.
Although it failed to solve the conjecture, Claude made unexpected progress by increasing the lower bound for the fraction of zeros of the Riemann zeta function known to satisfy the hypothesis from 41.6% to 67.2%.
During the experiment, Claude demonstrated autonomous research capabilities by coordinating 60 subagents, testing hundreds of ideas, searching literature, challenging its own proofs, and formalizing the result in Lean. This represents an early glimpse into autonomous AI-driven scientific discovery.
