Claude Tackles Riemann Hypothesis, Unexpectedly Raising Related Bound to 67%

An Anthropic blog post detailed a recent breakthrough in Claude's mathematical capabilities. Researchers challenged an unreleased research version of Claude to take a stab at the Riemann hypothesis, one of the most famous unsolved problems in mathematics.
While Claude did not prove the hypothesis, it made unexpected progress on a related problem. Drawing on extensive prior research, Claude improved the longstanding lower bound for the fraction of zeros of the Riemann zeta function satisfying the hypothesis from 41.6% to 67.2%. Anthropic mathematicians validated the paper, and Claude also produced a formally verifiable proof, highlighting the rapid progress in AI mathematical reasoning.
