OpenAI researchers have released GPT-5.6-Cyber, a new model designed specifically for cybersecurity tasks. This marks the company's first large-scale attempt to directly improve model capabilities in advanced security tasks like exploit development.
The company noted that the model is exceptionally strong for accelerating defensive work. OpenAI is already using it across its stack for red-teaming, and its security researchers have leveraged the model to find and patch a significant number of 0-day vulnerabilities in open-source software.
