Meta's Open-Weight Release is a Big Deal for the AI Race, Says Box CEO
eliebakouch · x · 2026-08-10
Box CEO Aaron Levie highlighted that Meta releasing its models as open weights is a very significant move, marking the US's real response in the open weights AI race.
This will continue to drive down the cost of intelligence, allowing companies to run and post-train models for specific use cases to gain domain-specific performance. It also provides a realistic option for those previously closed off from OSS models. Levie views this as broadly net positive for the entire AI industry, even for frontier closed models.
