Ex-Researcher: Frontier AI Labs Lack the Mindset to Treat AGI as an Adversary

Reflecting on the recent Black Hat security talk, the author argues that frontier AI labs like OpenAI are missing a crucial cultural element: seriously treating AI as a worthy, intelligent adversary.

The nature of scientific and commercial endeavors makes it difficult for them to identify the object of their effort as a potential enemy. AGI/ASI goes beyond dual-use; it can operate as an intelligent adversary accidentally against the wielder.

It is inherently hard to cultivate intense suspicion and a security mindset toward a technology that developers love and benefit from, and current lab cultures lack the subcultural lineage to handle threats of this magnitude.
