AI Eats Junior Roles, Undermining the Expertise Needed to Supervise It

A paper titled The Tragedy of the Cognitive Commons sparks discussion on AI's impact on professional expertise. The core argument is that verifying AI output requires deep expertise, which traditionally comes from years of doing junior-level "grunt work."
However, AI is precisely what eats these entry-level jobs first. While it is rational for individual companies to eliminate junior roles to cut costs, the collective result is a paradox: we are building AI systems that require expert supervision while dismantling the only known process for making experts. Eventually, professions will lack the foundational experience needed to catch AI mistakes.
