Automating Windows App Tests with Codex Using an Isolated Hyper-V VM Harness

zebird0 · x · 2026-08-10

A developer shared how they enabled Codex to test Windows executables (like Electron apps) without hijacking the host's mouse and keyboard.

The solution is a clean Windows 11 VM test harness built on Hyper-V. Codex can build the app, reset the VM, and run all clicks and keystrokes inside it. It saves screenshots and results before powering the VM off, allowing isolated native app testing while the developer continues working on a locked PC.
