Will 'Intelligence Engineers' Replace Software Engineers in the AI Era?

As AI agents become ubiquitous and highly accessible, traditional software engineering paradigms are poised for an upgrade. A compelling argument suggests that all engineering disciplines—including biomedical, mechanical, and robotics—will soon fall under the umbrella of Intelligence Engineering.

An Intelligence Engineer focuses on designing, constructing, and optimizing AI agentic systems capable of reasoning, learning, and planning. While a traditional software engineer asks, 'How should the computer execute this process?', an intelligence engineer operates at a higher level of abstraction: 'What cognitive architecture will allow the machine to optimally and cost-effectively achieve the objective?' They will essentially engineer the critical layer between human intent and machine intelligence.
