ChatGPT's UX has become fragmented: No good default between Chat and Work modes

The author argues that ChatGPT has transitioned from a highly usable consumer product into a confusing, fragmented experience. The core issue is the awkward distinction between Chat and Work modes: Work mode is too slow and cumbersome for simple queries, unnecessarily triggering thinking and tools, while Chat mode feels increasingly constrained and legacy, forcing users to switch back for real tasks.
Furthermore, the lack of sync between mobile and desktop, combined with a messy separation of local and cloud chats, leaves the product with no good default and infinitely more complex UX.
