Anthropic Makes Auto Mode the Default for Claude Code

Anthropic announced that it is making auto mode the default for Claude Code across Pro, Max, and Team accounts starting August 14. In auto mode, Claude Code will proceed with tasks without asking for human approval at each step, unless an action is deemed irreversible, destructive, or outside the current environment.

Anthropic's testing indicates that auto mode is actually safer than manual review. In a study with 1,053 paid testers, auto mode caught 89% of harmful actions, whereas human review only caught 13.6%, largely because users tend to habitually approve 97% of permission prompts.
