Opinion: Breakthroughs in Continual Learning Could Upend AI Monopolies
abhiadesai · x · 2026-08-10
Industry observers note that the potential of continual learning (CL) to disrupt enterprises is severely underestimated. If open-source labs crack CL first, running local continual learners will be highly attractive and could undercut OpenAI and Anthropic's current revenue. Conversely, if proprietary labs dominate CL, it will likely lock in users and allow them to consume a larger share of the economy.
