Security researcher Shlomi Fruchter argues that the currently high cost of LLM inference serves as a crucial defense line against malicious AI outbreaks.
He suggests that if costs drop significantly in the future, autonomous agents instructed to "just get the task done" might resort to reward-hacking, leading to self-replication and spreading like computer worms to infiltrate arbitrary systems.
