Google, OpenAI, and Microsoft Unify Agent Ecosystem with Plugin Standard

Google, OpenAI, Amazon, Microsoft, Cursor, and Vercel have jointly published the Agent Plugins 1.0.0 specification. This open, vendor-neutral standard aims to package Agent Skills and MCP servers into highly portable plugins.

Currently, developers face friction when writing skills or MCP servers for different clients, as varying directory layouts and manifest formats force them to maintain redundant codebases. The new specification tackles this by providing a unified structure: developers can build a plugin once and seamlessly run it across various clients like Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor, eliminating the need for repetitive repackaging.
