Chris Painter discussed AI alignment on the Hard Fork podcast. He noted that people currently view AI as junior virtual employees, underestimating the stakes of alignment failures. However, as AI capabilities rapidly improve and take over large parts of the world, the cost of misalignment will become massive.\n\nHe warned that in a fierce competitive race, we might find ourselves between a rock and a hard place: even with pervasive evidence of model misalignment, we could still be forced to deploy increasingly advanced models just to stay competitive.
