Solving Mazes via Local Temperature Diffusion for Optimal Pathfinding

matthen2 · x · 2026-08-08

A demonstration of a maze-solving algorithm based on local communication: at each step, every cell's temperature is updated to the mean of its neighbors (except for the fixed start and end nodes).

While inefficient, this method only requires local communication to find the optimal path (provided there are no loops), and dead ends naturally exhibit flat temperatures.
