UCLA Study Reveals Genetic Signatures of Memory Encoding in the Human Hippocampus

Researchers from UCLA and other institutions leveraged an extraordinarily rare neurosurgical human brain dataset to investigate memory formation mechanisms.
A preprint published on bioRxiv reveals that the front and back of the hippocampus exhibit distinct patterns of brain activity and gene expression during successful memory formation. This suggests that different parts of the hippocampus may support memory in specialized ways.
