Neuroscientist Anil Seth expressed strong skepticism about current AI possessing consciousness. He noted that just as humans have perceptual biases to see faces in clouds, we are inherently biased to project consciousness into AI systems. While we cannot be entirely certain, AI as we know it today neither is nor will likely soon be conscious.
