AI Mechanistic Interpretability Will Inevitably Enable Human Mind Reading

jd_pressman · x · 2026-08-07

Alex Pressman argues that mechanistic interpretability (mechinterp), currently used to read AI minds, will eventually be applied to humans to build real lie detectors. He warns that "everything you normalize doing to AIs will eventually be done to you."

He quotes @Gabecc to reinforce this dystopian perspective. Gabe points out that tech enabling forced mind-reading has extreme potential for abuse by governments and corporations. He argues that in a world where minds can be read, there is no hope, recovery, or escape, leading to a permanently locked-in dystopian society.
