Open-Source Web Flight Simulator Recreates Earth 3D Terrain via Three.js
tom_doerr · x · 2026-08-07
An open-source project named Web Flight Simulator combines high-fidelity 3D modeling from Three.js with global geospatial data from CesiumJS, allowing users to pilot an F-15 fighter jet over a real-time 3D replica of the Earth directly in the browser.
The project features dynamic Level-of-Detail (LOD) for seamless transitions between high-altitude stratospheric flight and low-level canyon runs. It also includes advanced combat and AI capabilities, equipped with an M61A1 Vulcan cannon and AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles.
