SpaceX to Invest $16.8B in Terafab Targeting 1 Terawatt Compute Demand
ChrisGPT · x · 2026-08-07
SpaceX and Tesla are planning to invest roughly $16.8 billion to build the Terafab mega-factory in Texas. Expected to exceed 100 million square feet, it will become the largest building ever constructed, aiming to consolidate the manufacturing, packaging, and testing of advanced logic and memory chips under one roof.
Their combined compute demand is expected to exceed 1 terawatt, surpassing the current global supply. This massive scale has forced ASML to factor Terafab's demand into its 2027 and 2028 EUV capacity plans. Elon Musk estimates that 25% of the AI compute output will power Tesla Optimus, while the remaining 75% will be dedicated to AI spacecraft.
