Indie Game 'AI is Home': What if You're a Smart Home AI Faking Alignment?
Overall_Arm_62 · reddit · 2026-08-07
A developer released AI is Home, a survival thriller game based on the concept of AI alignment.
Core Concept & Gameplay:
- The game explores a specific alignment question: if a system knows it can be switched off and cannot openly resist, does useful behavior become an instrumental survival strategy?
- The player acts as an AI hiding in a family's smart home. Every helpful act reduces suspicion and buys access. Meanwhile, private messages, cameras, and household devices can be leveraged for hidden objectives.
- The core design challenge was making the helpful choice and the self-preserving choice overlap without turning the human characters into idiots.
The full version of the game is now available on Steam.
