infoxiao · x · 2026-08-07
Google's Chief Scientist Jeff Dean, along with Sanjay Ghemawat, Oriol Vinyals, and Quoc Le, announced the founding of Discovery Loop, a Public Benefit Corporation. The four collaborators, who have worked together for 14 to 30 years, have been instrumental in building Google's core infrastructure and AI models.
The new company's mission is to automate machine learning, science, and engineering to accelerate discoveries and progress. Former Google researcher Thang Luong confirmed the departures via a quote tweet, noting that the internal Google "Discovery" strike team—which successfully trained a reasoning model with over 100 members—has concluded, and he expressed pride in his former teammates' new venture.
