Google is experiencing what observers call an "earthquake-level" negative event as top AI and engineering leaders Jeff Dean, Sanjay Ghemawat, Oriol Vinyals, and Quoc Le leave the company to launch a new startup named Discovery Loop.
Simultaneously, DeepMind co-founder Demis Hassabis has lost operational control. According to Reuters, he will have few direct reports, focusing instead on AGI societal impact research and spending more time as CEO of his spun-out drug discovery startup, Isomorphic Labs.
