OpenAI Countersues Apple: Claims Lax Offboarding Undermines Trade Secrets

In the lawsuit where Apple accused OpenAI of stealing hardware trade secrets, OpenAI recently filed court documents revealing its defense strategy. Instead of directly denying that former employees accessed information, OpenAI targeted Apple's own security flaws.

OpenAI argued that Apple allowed employees to use personal iCloud accounts for work and failed to properly revoke system access after they left. Furthermore, OpenAI submitted text message records proving an Apple manager accessed a former engineer's iCloud account post-departure. OpenAI contends that Apple's lax security and offboarding procedures undermine the legal validity of their trade secrets claim.
