GitHub Report: Global Open Source Collaboration Surges, India's Devs Triple in 5 Years

GitHub's latest data reveals that the global open source community is continuously expanding across various economies and developer groups. In Q1 2026, outbound open source collaboration jumped 16% quarter over quarter.
Since Q1 2020, contributors in the EU grew from 1.3M to 3.8M, India surged from 160K to 690K, and Singapore increased from 58K to 360K.
