AI community split: keep scaling LLMs or is it a dead end?

The AI community is divided: one camp advocates continued investment and scaling of LLMs, believing the rest will take care of itself; the other sees LLMs as a dead end delaying progress. Francois, Yann, and Marcus have always been in the latter group, but now they are trying to retcon into the former as it becomes obvious.
