The author analyzes the phenomenon where AI-generated code slop is accepted while writing slop is rejected. People typically evaluate code based on functionality and tests; as long as it runs, it can be overlooked in the short term. Writing, however, is meant for humans to read, and people naturally dislike reading verbose, AI-generated fluff.
The author notes this predates AI: human code slop often went unnoticed until someone had to maintain it, whereas human writing slop was spotted immediately by readers.
