OpenAI Seeks to Dismiss Apple's Trade Secrets Lawsuit as 'Meritless'
The Verge AI · rss · 2026-08-06
OpenAI has asked a federal judge to toss out Apple's landmark lawsuit accusing the ChatGPT maker of stealing trade secrets. In a recent motion to dismiss, OpenAI described the allegations as "meritless," arguing that Apple is mischaracterizing normal employee actions as theft and treating "generic" product development information as trade secrets. OpenAI also noted that Apple failed to make reasonable efforts to maintain the secrecy of this information.
The dismissal request follows a lawsuit filed by Apple in July, which alleged that former Apple employees who joined OpenAI stole confidential documents to advance OpenAI's AI research.
