Spotify expands AI remix project, Merlin brings 30,000 labels on board

Spotify is advancing a new feature that will allow music fans to use AI to create authorized covers and remixes. The company announced that Merlin, a licensing agency for independent labels, has joined the initiative, bringing music from over 30,000 labels to the project.
Spotify emphasized that its AI music product is different from controversial AI music startups often used to generate fully artificial songs. Co-CEO Gustav Söderström stated that the project focuses on "real artists, not fake artists," and fans will only be able to create remixes if artists consent to adding their work to the catalog.
