Arena AI Lead: Current Models are Bad Researchers, No Recursion Yet
arena · x · 2026-08-06
Peter Gostev, AI Capability Lead at Arena, shared his metric for determining whether we have reached the singularity: whether AI can actually engage in recursive research.
He noted that current models are still bad researchers when tested on math problems. They lack the understanding of which problems to focus on, get bogged down in excessive details, and fail to learn from their mistakes. Therefore, he concludes that AI has not yet achieved meaningful recursive research capabilities.
