Daphne Koller, founder and CEO of Insitro, argues that while data quantity is often cited as a hurdle for AI in biology, the most critical challenges are actually a lack of data diversity, missing pairings across modalities, and inadequate measurement technologies.

She emphasizes that simply scaling up the same types of existing data will not solve the problem. This follows an a16z observation that understanding human biology requires roughly 1000x the quantity of data we have collected so far.
