Creating Great UI Without Design Skills: AI Design Workflows and Tool Recommendations
dotey · x · 2026-08-06
The author shares experiences and tools for creating good-looking designs using AI without a design background:
- Claude design: Offers the best design capability. Using Opus 4.7 or above yields excellent results; a Pro subscription provides great value.
- baoyu-design: A local Agent Skill developed by dotey (Baoyu) that runs Claude Design locally with Codex integration. It achieves about 80% of the native effect and is highly underrated.
A critical tip highlighted is the use of reference images. Current SOTA models excel at visual imitation. Instead of forcing original designs from scratch, it's more effective to build an 80-point version using references and then modify it.
