FCC Advanced Robot Ban: Devices with >35% Foreign Components Face Prohibition

A robotics founder breaks down the FCC's ban on 'advanced robots,' warning that many US startups may not realize they are affected.
Devices over 4.4 lbs with a camera and teleoperation capabilities are classified as advanced robots. The critical restriction lies in the Bill of Materials (BOM): if more than 35% of component costs come from non-US suppliers, the device is classified as a 'foreign robot' and banned from sale. Because Nvidia GPUs and most actuators are manufactured overseas, a significant portion of low-cost robots currently assembled in the US will be impacted.
