Moving One Workflow to OpenHands Slashes API Costs by 90%

A developer reported that migrating a workflow from direct LLM calls to the open-source agent framework OpenHands cut their monthly API bill from $200 to $20.

He pointed out that while the industry obsesses over the next foundational models, the agent layer is what actually gets work done. Using the same models, an agent framework can orchestrate hour-long complex tasks including writing code, debugging, and running commands. As frontier models become commoditized, companies building the layer above them hold more staying power than those merely competing on model performance.
