Whale Rock Capital, an AI-focused hedge fund, plunged 21.7% in July, erasing its 72.5% first-half gains and cutting YTD returns to 35.1%. The July AI selloff hit chip stocks hard: SK Hynix fell nearly 40% from June highs, while SanDisk, Micron, and CoreWeave dropped over 30%. Other funds like Turion (-11.4%), Coatue (-8.3%), and Eureka (-6.9%) also suffered. Concerns over AI infrastructure ROI intensified as open-source models like K3 and V4Flash emerged. Separately, Leopold Aschenbrenner's AI hedge fund collapsed due to high leverage, shrinking from $45B to zero.
