Vast Gap Between ChatGPT Plus and Pro Hinders AI Democratization
thetylerhayes · x · 2026-08-05
The author, an experienced PM, compares the vast difference in user experience between ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscriptions. He notes that with Pro, he almost never worries about rate limits, allowing him to freely use the best models for extensive exploration. Conversely, Plus users constantly suffer from 'rate limit anxiety', forcing them to inefficiently ration the smartest models.
Despite overall model advancements, the Plus experience hasn't caught up to Pro. The author argues that OpenAI's goal to make "intelligence too cheap to meter" is the most critical path for AI democratization. The next true takeoff moment will only happen when average users can pay a flat fee and use AI without thinking about limits or reasoning constraints.
