Proposed US Ban on Chinese Optics to Drive Up AI Infrastructure Costs
tengyanAI · x · 2026-08-05
Reports indicate the US administration is considering a ban on Chinese transceiver imports, adding to a growing list of restricted Chinese hardware like drones and routers.
Industry analysts note that while the ban won't create Western 800G/1.6T capacity overnight, it will force hyperscalers into a re-qualification queue. If this supply chain swap is slow, it won't entirely halt the US AI buildout, but it will inevitably lead to a higher cost per rack and exacerbate the current shortage economics.
