Easy to Prototype, Hard to Maintain: OpenHands Shares Coding Agent Pitfalls
rajistics · x · 2026-08-04
OpenHands points out that while prototyping an internal coding agent is easier than ever, maintaining it presents a significant challenge.
Coding agents quickly evolve into complex platforms spanning runtimes, UIs, SDKs, model support, and security fixes. Building from scratch or forking creates a permanent gap with upstream and a heavy maintenance burden. Developers are advised to evaluate whether prompts, tools, skills, plugins, or SDKs can meet their needs before inheriting the full maintenance overhead of a platform.
