Cloudflare Launches Programmable Wallets for AI Agents to Pay for APIs
op7418 · x · 2026-08-04
Cloudflare has introduced Cloudflare Wallets, a programmable wallet designed specifically for AI agents to solve the challenges of API onboarding and payments. Users can now claim a unique wallet handle, which will soon allow agents to pay for APIs and content directly.
Core Features:
- Dual Wallet System: Features a human-owned "Wallet Account" (for deposits, withdrawals, and delegating spending) and a "Virtual Wallet" designed for agents via API keys.
- Controlled Budgets: Developers can set spending limits and allow-lists (whitelists) for virtual wallets, enabling agents to autonomously explore services within a strictly controlled budget.
- Identity Verification: Integrated with Cloudflare Pay, agents can optionally prove which organization they represent, solving agent identity issues while allowing anonymity.
- x402 Protocol: Supports micropayments via the x402 protocol, attaching payments directly to HTTP requests for uses ranging from AI inference to data and content.
