Currently, around 95% of intercontinental data transmission still relies on a fragile network of subsea fiber optic cables. Startup EndeavorSpace (EON) has raised a $10.75 million seed round co-led by a16z and General Catalyst.
The company plans to use satellite laser communications to build a space-based backhaul network. This aims to replace traditional subsea cables, mitigating the risks of physical severing and long repair cycles.
