Vertical Agents Beat General Coding Agents Through Native Context

After weeks of testing, the author concludes that the true moat for AI agents isn't the model, but context. While general coding agents like Cursor excel at writing code, they are blind to underlying data. Vertical agents like Databricks' Genie Code, however, already know the schemas, lineage, and permissions before generating a single line of code, reducing guesswork and failure rates.
The trade-off is that vertical agents are platform-locked and lack portability. The author asks the community if this pattern—vertical agents with native context outperformforming horizontal agents with raw capability—holds true in other domains.
