Paper Proposes CSED Paradigm: Reshaping Long-term Emotional Support in LLMs
kinamind · hf · 2026-08-03
This paper introduces Capability-Sustaining Emotional Dialogue (CSED), a new longitudinal research paradigm. Current emotional dialogue systems mostly focus on short-term emotional relief, ignoring user autonomy, dependency risks, and termination strategies during sustained use.
The study reveals that 95% of 60 system-building papers pursue relief-oriented goals, and none evaluate longitudinal outcomes or user dependency. The paper proposes aligning supportive strategies with goals like sustaining emotion regulation and decision autonomy. It also releases an audit protocol and evaluation criteria to improve AI's long-term emotional support capabilities across data, training, and governance.
